John Elliott, Vice-Chair

John Elliott first became involved with Canine Companions in 2000, after a mutual friend suggested our organization to him and his late wife, Joanne. Not long after, both John and Joanne joined the national board of directors, as well as the North Central board.

In the following years, John and Joanne helped Canine Companions engage with more diverse audiences in an effort to ensure more people with disabilities are eligible to receive a Canine Companions service dog. As the former chief executive officer of National Express Corporation, which operates 20,000 school buses throughout North America, John provided valuable insight into operations and what it means to be a successful and fair leader.

Since becoming engaged with Canine Companions, John has served as chair on the audit committee, as well as the Canine Companions Board Development Committee. While he took a brief break from serving on the national board to focus on work and family, John happily re-joined the board of directors in June 2022.

“I’m very, very pleased to, again, be a part of the board and be with all of the people associated with Canine Companions,” says John.
